Try these natural sleep aids.

Have you ever not been able to get to sleep when you know you have to get up early the next morning? . So is there anything you can do? Of course there is.

One old method that works almost every time for me is counting. Try counting like this: 1…1…2…3…4…5; 2…1…2…3…4…5; 3…1…2…3…4…5; etc. Usually I’ll fall asleep around number 70 or 80, and that only takes a few minutes. Count slowly too. A two-second pause between numbers is best. This is only effective if it’s quiet around you. Trust me, a passing truck or plane will interrupt your counting and put you right back where you started.

If that doesn’t work, try reading something technical or complicated. To work it should be something really boring. Stock quotes or a TV Guide page will do great. This sort of slows things down and you’ll get bored fast. I always have the day’s newspaper by my bed and when I can’t sleep I’ll just read the day’s Stock Market statistics for about 5-10 minutes. This almost always works, so I suggest trying it.

Now if you still can’t get to sleep, I have just one tip for you. Turn on the TV. Yea, it sounds a bit strange, but turning your TV on can actually help you sleep, if you do it the right way. Keep the volume very low, to the point where you can clearly hear the dialogue, but it sounds like a whisper. Don’t have it on a comedy or late night talk show, these are too interesting for you to sleep. I’d look for something in a different language or maybe reruns of a drama show. The talking helps you to drift off to sleep yet not keep you up. This is great for people who feel they can’t sleep because they’re thinking too much.

And if none of these methods work, my suggestion is to try sleeping pills. As always, you should consult your doctor before taking any sort of medication. But I think some over the counter sleeping pills should do fine. Personally I’ve never taken one, but I have seen them work effectively. The most important thing to remember when trying to sleep is to stay calm. You can’t sleep if you’re excited.
