A great addition to any summer family gathering is a watermelon boat. Making a watermelon boat works great in the summer because of that all the fruit used in making it is in season in the summer.

To make a watermelon boat you will need the following ingredients:

1 Cup lemon juice

1 Cup sugar

2 Tsp. all purpose flour

2 Eggs, beaten

1 Cup whipping cream, whipped

1 Large watermelon

1 Large honeydew cut into cubes or balls

1 Large cantaloupe cut into cubes or balls

1 Pints fresh strawberries, sliced

1/2 Pound green grapes

First combine the lemon juice, sugar and flour in a saucepan, then bring it to a boil. Reduce the heat to low. Stir 1/4 cup into the eggs; return all to the pan. Cook and stir for fifteen minutes or until mixture coats the spoon. Make sure you don’t boil the mixture. Cool the mixture, fold in the whipped cream; cover and chill it until your going to serve the watermelon boat.

To make the watermelon into a watermelon boat you need to do these steps. Cut a thin slice from the bottom of the watermelon. You should use a sharp knife because this allows the watermelon to sit flat. You should then make a horizontal cutting line 2 inches above the center of the watermelon. Using a large sharp knife you should then proceed to cut along the cutting line you just drawed. Make sure you cut all the way through the watermelon. Next, being very careful pull off the top section of the watermelon’s rind. Proceed to remove the watermelons fruitful insides and cut the fruit into cubes or balls.

You can then set the watermelon cube or balls aside. If you want you can make a decorative edge on the watermelon boat. You can do this by first putting the watermelon on its side. One way to make a decorative edge is to lay a star cookie cutter against the inside edge of the watermelon’s edge. Make sure you only allow half

of the star cookie cutter to cut through the watermelon’s rind. You can then keep repeating this process around the rest of the watermelon’s outer rind. Now that you got the watermelon boat done you can combine all the fruits together including the watermelon cubes or balls. After combining the fruit together you can spoon the fruit into the watermelon boat. You can serve the dressing on the side if you choose.

Following these directions to make a watermelon boat will not only produce a tasty dish but a decorative one as well.
