Constipation, it isn't a pleasant subject, but it is far too common to ignore, and if left untreated, can lead to serious problems. Constipation is defined as a condition in which the stool becomes too hard for easy elimination. The symptoms include cramping pain when there is an urge to have a bowel movement. Also, the stool is hard to pass, it is hard, painful, and dry or more dry than usual. This can cut the rectum and anus (the opening to the rectum), and cause hemmorrhoids, bleeding and pain. Low fiber diets, not drinking enough, not enough exercise and stress can all lead to constipation.
You can overcome constipation with simple home remedies and common sense. Schedule a regular time for bowel movements. Choose a time when you won't be rushed or interrupted. Many people find that the best time is shortly after a meal or first thing in the morning or after coffee.
Secondly, cut down on refined, white starches, like white bread and rice and sugary cereals, instead eat whole grain, bran, brown bread, rice and cereals. Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water each day. Eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh green salads are good. Eat dried prunes. Hot beverages stimulate the GI system.
Relax, decrease stress, get plenty of rest, and exercise regularly.
Only use over the counter stool softeners if absolutely necessary. If problems continue, see your doctor. Don't rely on laxatives to have a bowel movement because they can become addictive.
