Fall craft ideas

Art's and craft ideas for the colored leaves this fall.

I haven't done this craft since I was a child. The other day I was looking at all the leaves that are starting to change color on the trees. We live in northern Michigan, and are one of the first places to see the fall colors. It is a beautiful time of year, that doesn't last nearly long enough. The reds, yellows, and oranges on the trees is an awesome site, and one that my children will cherish for the whole year after doing this project.

Here is what you do:

I looked high and low for it, but finally found this at our local hardware store. (I could not even find it at wal mart!) It's clear contact paper, that you would normally line your shelves with. It was in the kids' craft section at the hardware store. I did have to ask for it though. It was $3 and some odd cents, not too expensive for a good sized role.

Now the contact paper has a paper backing on it, when peeled off is sticky. Cut two equal sized pieces, and take the paper back off. Lay sticky sides up on a table. Next, gather things from your yard. Colorful leaves are great! Flowers, four leafed clovers, odd shaped leaves like ferns, grass, etc. What ever looks interesting and will make your work of art stand out.

Lay pieces on the contact paper so it sticks to it. Arrange your display as a work of art. When finished take the second piece of contact paper and stick it to the first, sealing in the leaves and flowers. Next trim around with a pair of scissors. Take a paper punch and punch a hole in the top. String some yarn and hang it from your window. Makes it a stain glass type of look! You can also make them into book marks, cards, or magnet's for the refridgerator.

Now when the snow is flying up here in Michigan, we can look at our project and remember this fall for years to come!
