One of the biggest problems with many people’s lives is how to put down what you are thinking on paper when trying to write a report or essay. If you want to get ahead in life, you will need to be able to inform others what you are thinking on paper. This is a very simple thing to do with enough practice; you just need to get aquatinted with some of the finer elements of literature.
One of the things that will stand out the most is your grammar. While this may sometimes seem too easy and neglected, it can really make you look bad if you misspell too many words or use the wrong punctuation. If you have a word processing program on your computer to check the spelling, that is good, but not good enough. You want to make sure you proofread EVERYTHING you do before you submit it. It is usually a good idea to not proofread until a while after you have finished writing it also, so you can see it from a fresh state of mind and be more open to errors.
Along those same lines, try to avoid huge sentences and never ending paragraphs. If you seem to be rambling on, just stop and try to compress your words into a more concise form. You should be able to pick out the separate ideas in your writings and break them up more evenly with periods. Also try to avoid overdoing compound sentences with commas. Just break the two thoughts apart into separate sentences if you feel you are trying to say too much at once.
You should also avoid using too many interjections, or using the same one over and over again. Instead of saying “Next” in front of each sentence in a list, say things like also, furthermore, and finally to compose better lists. Repeating anything too often is generally not a good idea, and this can be avoided easily by simply substituting in different words.
All these things may not seem like much, but if you just practice them you will become better and better at getting your point across. Just remember to not be repetitive or wordy in what you are saying and you will be able to write much more efficient and effectively in whatever you want to do.
